Year 6 Residential - Grenville House Day 3
So, Day 3 is at an end, and it has been another jam-packed day.
This morning, two of our groups went caving. The children were brilliant, with many of them overcoming their fears to complete the cave loop. We experienced absolute darkness when all of the torches were switched off, listening carefully for water droplets in complete silence.
The cave system was quite dry, as there hasn't been much rain recently, but the children still managed to enjoy some sliding down the rocks.
The other group stayed at Grenville House to complete the bouldering and indoor climbing activities. The challenge was to traverse the bouldering wall using either a range of colours or just one colour. They then harnessed up and climbed the wall, aiming to ring the bell at the top.
After a cracking lunch of burgers and wedges, the groups switched activities, with Mr Snow's group completing the indoor climbing session and the rest of the Sampford children taking on the abseiling challenge. Mrs Tolen said that the children did brilliantly to all get clipped in and step onto the platform, which was a real challenge in itself. Many of them then made the 30-metre journey down to the bottom of the quarry.
It was then back to the centre for what has been the most popular meal of the week so far: lasagne served with garlic bread.
We then headed out on a night walk to a secluded beach before making our way back through Brixham harbour. The day finished with a well-deserved hot chocolate before bed.
