Ash Local Walk - Exmoor Challenge
The children in Ash Class took part in a 9-mile walk around the local area. This walk is designed to expose children to beauty of the local area; the skills of navigation; and the joy of being out in the countryside - and walking!
Mr Curnow once again joined us to help the children understand how to:
- Read instructions carefully
- Find and track their location on an OS map
- Estimate a 100m distance by pacing
- Read a compass - including taking a bearing
- Understand what to do in an emergency
- Walk at a good pace as a team
The children were fantastic and showed some great skills and knowledge during the walk. The Year 6s will now continue their training in the hopes of completing the Exmoor Challenge - a 16-mile walk around the Dulverton area unaccompanied - in May.
Many thanks also to Mr Hallett who volunteered his time to help supervise and guide the group.
